TONKATSU by TERAZAWA at Centrio Mall

Iberico Katsu, Kurobuta Katsu, Rosu Katsu, Hire Katsu, Ebifurai, Pork Karaage and many others are Japanese terms that most of us specially me don't understand, but once you have tasted them, you will surely remember them everytime. Those are just a few on the menu offered at TONKATSU BY TERAZAWA, When someone asked me to eat at any Japanese Restaurant it will always make me don't want to eat there. Why? Because I don't know how to use chopsticks (LOL) and the only Japanese foods I know are sushi and sashimi.

But not until I tried TONKATSU BY TERAZAWA! Now, my impression with Japanese foods changed. Yes, they also encourage diners to use chopsticks but they always make the spoon and fork ready if you request for it. At TONKATSU, they provide servings of tasty, tender pork cutlets fried to perfection, served with pickled vegetables, shredded cabbage, miso soup and unlimited rice. TONKATSU BY TERAZAWA is the first Philippine franchise of the Japan-based chain brought to the country by the Bistro Group. The dish, Tonkatsu, is showcased, as created by Japanese restaurateur and chef Akinori Terazawa.

So, when we visited TONKATSU BY TERAZAWA at the Ground Floor of Centrio Mall CDO, we were introduced to the following Katsu in the menu. These are a delectable Japanese delights that will surely make you ask for more. We've learned that one of the not so secret of processing their meat to achieve that flavorsome taste of their meat is the aging process, it is a Japanese method of preparing dish where the meat is wrapped in a clean white cloth and chilled for three days and the method will produce a meat that is irresistibly flavorful and juicy.

By the way, the meat they are serving are not just any ordinary meat that you can buy in any supermarket, because they are using an imported meat. Just like with the Kurobuta Katsu, Kurobuta is dubbed as the angus of pork, it is from the original strains of Berkshire hogs from Japan. This method of raising produces hog meat that is of optimum quality and lush in flavor, with its own inherent and distinctive sweetness. That is why, when you order Kurobuta Katsu you will recognize its juiciness and rich in flavor when you eat it.

Their Iberico Katsu is of the finest black Iberico pork. Popularly known as Pata Negra, an Iberian pigs are special breed found in south and southwestern areas of Spain. An indigenous, free-roaming living link to the European wild boar. These pigs are feed on barley and maize weeks after weaning, they are then allowed to forage of forest floors eating acorns, thyme, rosemary and mushrooms, making them the "healthiest pigs with 50% unsaturated fats like that of olive oil. That is why when you order an Iberico Katsu you will taste the nutty, meaty, melt-in-your-mouth and flavorful fried pork. Aside from those imported meat, they also offer the Chef's Katsu specialties include the Rosu Katsu sets (deep-fried pork loin sets) and the Hire Katsu (deep-fried pork fillet sets).

Anyway, before the Katsu sets above has been served, we started first with the appetizing starters. Here comes Chasoba Salad, it's a Chef's specialty, a cold noodle salad topped with strips of nori and Japanese mayo on the side. Its a good appetizer for the katsu meal, a new taste of salad for me  and I love it. Don't worry if you don't know what to do because the restaurant's wait staff are always there and happy to serve you with their personal attention, it is a signature brand of service by the Bistro Group.

Next on the array of the appetizing starters is their Fried Chicken Wings garnished with sesame and pepper. I can eat the whole servings for myself because I just love its sweet taste.

They also served us French Fries, yes and it is not just any French fries because it is a Japanese style sprinkled with powdered nori that makes it a distinctive Japanese taste.

Kakifurai followed right after the French fries, it is a deep fried Japanese Oyster covered with special breading and is served with lemon and tartar sauce, topped with chopped cabbage. My first bite of it is heavenly crunchy! You must try this!

Then for the last of the starters is the Pork Karaagi, a marinated strips of pork covered also with special breading. I ate it without the rice but I can't help it but need to ask for rice and it is best when you dip it with their mayo mixed with a squeeze of lemon.

We were overwhelmed with the starters how much more when the katsu sets arrived at our table for us to enjoy the rest of the meal and we ended our meal with a delightful dessert that will surely melts in your mouth! Their Frozen Green Tea is a Graham-crusted green tea ice cream, topped with soft meringue to complete your Japanese Style meal.
