Balay Mindanaw Awards 2016

Balay Mindanaw awarded the following barangays in respective field last Friday night May 27, 2016 at the Event Center of Centrio Ayala Mall in Cagayan de Oro City:

Most Outstanding Barangays:

Kaangayan - Barangay San Vicente, Sumilao Bukidnon
Kalambuan - Barangay Lawaan, Gingoog City
Kalig-on -  Barangay Tawagan, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur
Kalinaw - Barangay Pagangan, Aleosan, North Cotabato
Special Award: Natatanging Balay Mindanaw Award - Barangay Diatagon, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur

The event was started in the morning with Dayon Kamo sa Barangay Exhibit where each of the 20 finalist of the Balay Mindanaw Awards 2016 displayed some distinct products and presentation from their barangays. The selection of the finalists was based on the outstanding community initiatives, land rights advocacy, resiliency projects, and peace dialogues of the nominated barangays.

The winners received a specially-made trophy, which represents Balay Mindanaw’s vision for Mindanao as the bearer of hope and peace, is handcrafted by Jojo Sescon, a renowned international sculptor, environmentalist, photojournalist, and multi-awarded film maker from Mindanao.

The first-ever Balay Mindanaw Awards is part of the Balay Mindanaw’s 20th anniversary celebration.

Charlito “Kaloy” Manlupig said that “Through these awards, we will celebrate local victories in building empowered, sustainable, resilient and peaceful communities.”
