ROTA [Rebirth Outdoor Trekkers & Adventurers] according to the group's Facebook page is a group of people who share an interest in nurture-nature-related outdoor activities and community service. The range of interests and abilities is quite wide, with most people doing a mixture of walking-trekking-hiking, and climbing depending on the weather and the season.
The group has a lively atmosphere with plenty of sharp witted banter flying about, although it would be fair to warn you that the jokes are terrible! It can be a good way to meet like minded people and members of ROTA do organize climbing holidays and trips amongst themselves in addition to the monthly meets.
I am proud of this group, they are not just any ordinary outdoor trekkers and adventurers group because they have been helping to care for the nature by tree and mangrove planting in some areas where it is needed, they've also been doing outreach programs and other community services to hinterland and remote areas where help are insufficient. They've been usually doing outreach programs by providing educational kits to elementary school pupils specially in the mountainous regions in Mindanao, but they also reached few communities/schools in Northern Luzon like Timbak Elementary School and Bila Elementary School. They've also provided shoes and been doing feeding programs to some areas.
They have also organized Trek and Treat event, a fundraising trek event for Baby Rusver where all proceeds of the event will go to the medical expenses of Baby Rusver who is suffering from OMPHALOCELE (a type of abdominal wall defect in which the intestines, liver, and occasionally other organs remain outside of the abdomen.) The ROTA group continues to do such events every now and then because the members were dedicated to helping others. I am a member of this accommodating and ready to lend a hand group, despite of my schedule, I somehow able to joined few of the events but not most of the time since I am having a busy schedule. But when I can't, I tried my best to help in some ways like providing school supplies as my contribution on some outreach programs.
Just recently, the ROTA group submitted a video entry for the Smart-Pay-IT-Forward - Paying it forward through Smart Acts. These smart acts of kindness can go even further with payITfwd – the new initiative of Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) that aims to enable through technology ongoing efforts that foster learning. Smart will payITfwd by giving away 5 tablets, Smart Bro load worth P3,000, Smart Bro pocket wi-fi, and cash prize worth P50,000 to twenty teams with the best projects.
In line with this, the group needs your support to spread the video and vote for it to be included in the top twenty teams. Round 1 of voting period will be on September 3 to 10, 2013 11:59 pm, so the group is counting for your full supports. The cash prize if in God's grace the group's entry will win, will be used for another series of outreach programs by buying school kits to be provided to less fortunate schools and communities in some remote areas in the country.
